Applicants for part-time engineering management programs typically need a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related STEM field.

The University of Louisville, for example, requires a “bachelor’s degree in science in engineering, math, or related scientific field from an accredited institution,” whereas the University of Arkansas limits admissions to the ABET-accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.6,14

Work experience and minimum GPA requirements vary, and though not always mandatory, relevant professional experience is often preferred.

  • St. Cloud State University requires applicants to have at least five years of industry experience, with an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher and a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.16

Some programs have made GRE (Graduate Record Examination) and GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) scores optional or have specific waiver criteria. These are a type of standardized test results often used in graduate school admissions.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the University of Arkansas clarify that GRE or GMAT scores are not required, whereas the University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL) waives their GRE of 290 or GMAT of 500 requirements for applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or above, or have at least one year of post-graduate full-time work experience in a technical field.6,15,17
