About the program

The Master of Engineering in Engineering Management (MEEM) program at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is designed to equip engineers with the essential management skills required in today's technology-driven environments. By integrating technical expertise with business acumen, the program prepares professionals to lead teams, manage projects, and drive innovation within their organizations. This program is ideal for engineers aiming to transition into leadership roles or enhance their managerial capabilities in technical settings.

Program Overview

For engineers ready to take on leadership roles, the MEEM program at UCCS delivers a curriculum that integrates engineering principles with essential management strategies. This program is designed with the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) guidelines in mind, ensuring its relevance to today's industry.

The program provides flexibility for working professionals, allowing them to balance their studies with other commitments.

Specializations and Academic Pathways

The MEEM program provides a flexible learning experience. While it doesn't offer formal specializations, students gain a strong foundation through core courses and can customize their studies with electives. Core courses cover vital topics like systems engineering, financial management for engineering, and leadership in technology. By engaging in case studies and projects that simulate real-world scenarios, students develop practical engineering management skills.

All graduates of this program must complete the following seven core courses:

  • EMGT 5010 – Intro to the Systems Perspective
  • EMGT 5110 – Systems Engineering Processes
  • EMGT 5050 – Engineering Project Management
  • EMGT 5020 – Finance & Accounting for Engineering Managers
  • EMGT 5310 – Project Estimation and Risk Analysis
  • EMGT 5510 – Leadership for Engineers
  • EMGT 5610 – Engineering Management Capstone

Students are also required to take these three Business Emphasis Courses:

  • MKTG 6000 - Marketing Strategy
  • OPTM 6000 - Operations: Competing Through Capabilities
  • QUAN 5500 - Fundamentals of Business Statistic

However, students can request to substitute some Business courses for QUAN 5500. To qualify, students must meet specific program criteria, including a B or better in a Probability & Statistics course within the last five years.

Career Outcomes
