Tailor Your Coursework Through Electives
ODU's MEM includes four open elective courses, totaling 12 credits, selected from available graduate-level engineering management courses. You develop a plan of study with an advisor, allowing you to connect some of your coursework with your professional interests.
Subjects to discuss with your advisor include logistics and supply chain management, cost engineering, risk analysis, and team performance and decision-making. These are examples of coursework to explore—not formal MEM concentration titles. Before making a particular subject central to your decision, confirm that the relevant courses fit your approved plan and will be available when you need them.
Consider a Certificate Before the Full Degree
For students who are not ready to commit to the full MEM, ODU also offers a 12-credit online graduate certificate in Engineering Management. Students choose four courses from an approved list, and certain courses may later apply toward the MEM after formal admission to the degree program. This may be worth exploring when you want a smaller initial academic commitment.
ODU's 12-credit graduate certificate in Project Management provides another option for students whose immediate goals center on managing projects. Certain certificate courses may also apply toward the MEM after admission. Before enrolling, ask ODU to identify which courses would count toward your intended degree plan; do not assume that certificate admission guarantees MEM admission or that every credit will automatically apply.
